The Reorganization Of Structural Components Of Tumors Essay

6. EDC exposure elicits oncogenic changes in matrix components and tumor architecture The importance of extracellular matrix (ECM) composition, stiffness, 3D architecture and its influence cell proliferation, differentiation, migration and survival have been well characterized(Jansen et al., 2015) (Kourouklis, Kaylan, Underhill, 2016; Yang et al., 2016) (Coombs, Leonard, Rush, Santistevan, Hedberg-Dirk, 2016; Rammensee, Kang, Georgiou, Kumar, Schaffer, 2016; Subbiah et al., 2016).Cells can sense discreet changes in ECM make-up, and have been shown to behave differently in a 2D in vitro setting compared to in 3D in vitro culture (Alessandri et al., 2014; Lu et al., 2013). While the precise mechanism remains to be defined, the tumor stiffness has been implicated as a potential initiator of metastasis and tumor progression (Fenner et al., 2014). The reorganization of structural components of tumors has been shown to enhance both tumor formation and metastasis, demonstrating a structural link between density, the stromal component, and the tumor (Chaudhuri et al., 201 4). Furthermore, epithelial cells are known to respond to changes in environmental stiffness enhancing proliferation and cell motility (Chaudhuri et al., 2014). The composition of the architecture of tumors differs from that of normal tissue both in molecular makeup and mechanical properties (rigidity and tensile forces) (Hansen Bissell, 2000)Tumor cells will react to changes in architecture leading toShow MoreRelatedHemp Cultivation in China42289 Words   |  170 PagesAssociation P. Hamlet Nature and Morals Essay Example For Students

Hamlet Nature and Morals Essay Great literary works retain their popularity as a result of many different factors. One such factor which can lead to popularity of a work, current or consistent discussion of a work’s merits, can come into play when an author or playwright leaves questions unanswered in his work. In Hamlet, William Shakespeare creates such a situation. As a result of the ambiguity of clues given throughout this play, critics may argue for or against the idea that Prince Hamlet’s â€Å"antic disposition† put on as a facade to mislead the royal family pales in comparison to the disposition of Hamlet’s lunatic mind, or in other words, that Hamlet in fact truly succumbs to insanity. Evidence for this opinion can be derived from Hamlet’s erratic mood changes, careless slaughter of those not directly involved in the murder of his father, and interactions with the ghost of King Hamlet. For a man thought to be feigning insanity, Prince Hamlet seems to have very little control of his emotions. In fact, Hamlet admits this to Horatio, his confidant, when he says, â€Å"Sir, in my heart there was a kind of fighting / That would not let me sleep† (5.2. lines 4-5). This lack of restraint leads to Hamlet’s unpredictable mood swings throughout the play. Hamlet’s relationship with Ophelia easily spawns such dramatic alterations in the prince’s attitude. For example, when Hamlet first suspects Ophelia acts only as the pawn for Polonius’s ploys, he reacts rashly, bitterly denying that he ever loved her. â€Å"You should not have believed me, for virtue cannot so / inoculate our old stock, but we shall relish of it. I loved / you not† (3.1.117-19). This massive reversal in disposition is later contrasted by another reversal when Hamlet leaps into Ophelia’s open grave at her funeral to dispute Laertes and claim, â€Å"I loved Oph elia, forty thousand brothers / Could not with all their quantity of love / Make up my sum† (5.1.252-54). These abrupt mood changes also appear in Hamlet’s relationship with his mother. He seemed to believe in his mother’s purity and goodness, but eventually Hamlet seems to hold a great mount of contempt for Gertrude, especially when he mocks her words, and then snidely proclaims: â€Å"You are the queen, your husband’s brother’s wife, / And would it were not so, you are my mother† (3.4.15-16). Such mood swings as these definitely prove, if anything, that Hamlet could not keep adequate control of his emotions. This lack of discipline also leads Hamlet to shamelessly murder several people not directly related to his plot to avenge his father’s death. Hamlet kills Polonius in Scene 4 of Act 3 when he becomes startled by the former’s cries for help. He the flaunts this deed n the presence of the King and Laertes. Hamlet also boasts to Horatio of his cunning plan which resulted in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern delivering their own execution notices to the English crown. Is it possible for a sane man to gloat over the death of another man by his own hand? In addition to these deaths, Hamlet can be indirectly linked to the deaths of Ophelia and Gertrude. To further this idea of Hamlet’s insanity, one can observe the prince’s interaction with the ghost of his father. For example, after Hamlet’s first interaction with this ghost, he puts forth, as Horatio calls them, â€Å"wild and whirling words.† Why right, you are in the right, And so without more circumstance at all I hold it fit that we shake hands and part, You, as your business and desire shall point you, For every man hath business and desire Such as it is, and for my own poor part, Look you, I will go pray. (1.5.127-134) Another possibility exists in relation to Act 3 Scene 4 in which Hamlet sees the ghost of his father, while Gertrude cannot see the specter. It is important to remember that in all other encounters with the ghost, Hamlet was not the only person to behold the spirit. In this scene however, Hamlet alone sees this vision. This scene reveals Hamlet’s madness at its pinnacle. .u012c9065a6a45c9db724c9cefb4e5390 , .u012c9065a6a45c9db724c9cefb4e5390 .postImageUrl , .u012c9065a6a45c9db724c9cefb4e5390 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u012c9065a6a45c9db724c9cefb4e5390 , .u012c9065a6a45c9db724c9cefb4e5390:hover , .u012c9065a6a45c9db724c9cefb4e5390:visited , .u012c9065a6a45c9db724c9cefb4e5390:active { border:0!important; } .u012c9065a6a45c9db724c9cefb4e5390 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u012c9065a6a45c9db724c9cefb4e5390 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u012c9065a6a45c9db724c9cefb4e5390:active , .u012c9065a6a45c9db724c9cefb4e5390:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u012c9065a6a45c9db724c9cefb4e5390 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u012c9065a6a45c9db724c9cefb4e5390 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u012c9065a6a45c9db724c9cefb4e5390 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u012c9065a6a45c9db724c9cefb4e5390 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u012c9065a6a45c9db724c9cefb4e5390:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u012c9065a6a45c9db724c9cefb4e5390 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u012c9065a6a45c9db724c9cefb4e5390 .u012c9065a6a45c9db724c9cefb4e5390-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u012c9065a6a45c9db724c9cefb4e5390:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Tennessee Williamss Life Story EssayIn conclusion, Hamlet’s â€Å"antic disposition† can easily be understood, through examples of Hamlet’s unpredictable attitude changes, slaughter of innocents, and interactions with the ghost of his father, to be only the â€Å"tip of the iceberg† concerning his unstable mental state.

Is Shylocks Revenge Justified free essay sample

He is a wealthy, moneylending Jew who practices usury. He’s revenge is justified for many reasons, these reasons include him being abused for being a Jew and a moneylender at the same time. Another reason is that Antonio prevents him from doing business as he loans money interest free. Shylock was a victim of an unjust trial which leaves Shylock’s will to live demolished as he is bloodthirsty for revenge. He also complains that aren’t Jews and Christians the same, if a Jew were to do wrong to a Christian wouldn’t a Christian want revenge? Despite all of this he uses his patience and lends 3000 Ducats to Antonio interest free in an attempt to lure him into his death hole, which seemingly succeeds. A reason for Shylock’s justification for revenge is that he was abused verbally and physically. In the 16th century if you were a Jew living in Venice, you would be discriminated in countless methods, it was a period of racism. We will write a custom essay sample on Is Shylocks Revenge Justified? or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Shylock was called names, spat on and kicked by Antonio (â€Å"You’ve called me blasphemer, cutthroat dog, and spat on my Jewish cloak/you shunned me on some other day†). All that did was make Shylock’s fury grow towards Antonio. Another reason would be that Shylock was a victim of an unjust trial, Portia disguised as Balthazar (a young lawyer) calls Shylock a foreigner. Even though he was born, raised and owes all his life to Venice. Shylock came to the court for one reason only, all he asked for was justice (Act 4 Scene 1). Portia turned everything around on him and made the Duke believe that he was the villain. He took an unfair sentence as he was accused of being a foreigner and had to convert to Christianity. In addition to this, Antonio prevents Shylock from doing business as he lends money interest free, while Shylock uses interest to make profit and to support his family. Antonio then mocks and laughs at his losses (Act 3 Scene 1 â€Å"laughed at my losses, mocked my gains, scorned my people, and prevented me from doing business†) Shylock is patient while his fury grows and waits for that one day, where all his revenge will be put to justice against Antonio. Furthermore, Shylock complains to Salarino and Solanio that if a Jew were to do wrong to a Christian wouldn’t that Christian want to seek revenge? (Act 3 Scene 1 lines 50-60) He then gives them proof that Jews and Christians are the same (â€Å"Doesn’t a Jew have eyes? Doesn’t a Jew have hands? Organs, a body, senses, emotions, passions? †¦Ã¢â‚¬ ) In addition he tells them that he learnt his cruelty and desperateness for revenge from the Christians, he actually is crueler than his own teachers (â€Å"The villainy you teach me, I will emulate, and in all probability, I’ll do better than my teachers†). Again, Shylock has the right to take revenge on Antonio because he was patient and had no aggression towards him on any of the cases. Antonio did a lot of humiliating things towards him as stated before, but he had no retaliation and all that did was make his fury and anger grow towards Antonio. He had no intention of harming Antonio, it was his actions which led Shylock into wanting revenge Just as a vampire that is bloodthirsty. Subsequently, Shylock’s revenge is justified because if Antonio didn’t break the agreement Shylock wouldn’t have had the penalty of the bond. Is Antonio foolish? Firstly, who would accept a penalty which would kill him? Secondly, why would he break such an agreement? It all goes down to how mindless Antonio is. Shylock would then have the right to take his bond penalty because of a stolid move which cost Antonio his life. Finally, Shylock’s justification for revenge has been proven and he has with all means and rights to take his revenge against Antonio. He was abused verbally and physically, he also was prevented by Antonio from making business, he was a victim of an unjust trial and had no retaliation towards Antonio despite all the abuse and harm he has done. Shylock never had the intention of harming Antonio therefore why shouldn’t he take revenge if he did nothing wrong. But only to take all the damage which was inflicted to him. After all, Shylock truly deserves to take revenge as he never did anything wrong.
