The reorganization of structural components of tumors has been shown to enhance both tumor formation and metastasis, demonstrating a structural link between density, the stromal component, and the tumor (Chaudhuri et al., 201 4). Furthermore, epithelial cells are known to respond to changes in environmental stiffness enhancing proliferation and cell motility (Chaudhuri et al., 2014).
